Production and employment on the increase in the Helsinki Region (2006-03-09)

During the latter part of the year the economic growth in the Helsinki Region continued reasonably strong. So, production increased clearly faster in the region than in the country as a whole, some 3.5 percent year on year. Almost two percentage points lower was the growth in the whole country. Mr. Heikki J. Perälä, the Managing Director of the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce in an interview for the Kauppalehti newspaper said: The Helsinki Region is doing well in all areas of business. Better still, no overheating can be seen in any area. During the latter part of 2005 business services and commerce were the fastest growing areas of business year. Also growing were all other service businesses as well as construction and manufacturing industry. After the temporary lapse in the previous quarter the growth of employment was restored to the track of just under 1.5 percent.
