On the 1st of December due to renovation work is closing Helsinki Main Library, situated in Itä-Pasila. Some of the public areas as well as staff working space will be refit during the renovation. The renovation is estimated to last for ten months. The most significant changes in the public area will be on the entrance floor where the loan desk and information desk is combined to one service station. A machine for returned loans will also be installed close to the entrance. To the second floor, which is reserved for customer service only will be moved the customer workstations. Electrical installations and air conditioning will be renewed and the lighting improved. The main part of the library personnel during the renovation will be relocated to other libraries. All material borrowed from the Main Library has been granted a two month extension, i.e. loans made in November may be returned in February 2006.
